It’s Wine Time!

Jessica Wood

Jessica’s love for hospitality spans almost two decades, having travelled across the globe with an extensive and varied hospitality career in the UK and Australia before settling in New Zealand in 2015. Since then, her exposure to NZ wine has really turned her interest into a passion and become the focus of her career.

Finding the opportunity to formalise her wine education, Jess began her wine journey at Noble Rot Wine Bar in late 2018, enrolling for the WSET Level 2 in Wine and Spirits. After passing this with ease, she joined the Noble Rot team to prioritise her studies and pursue growth within the wine industry. In 2019, Jess went on to complete both the WSET Level 3 in Wine & Spirits and the Court of Master Sommeliers Certified Sommelier Qualification.

Jess’s hard work and dedication saw her take the offer of Restaurant Manager & Sommelier at Noble Rot in August 2019 & she has since enrolled on the gruelling WSET Level 4 Diploma of Wine, spending her days intensely studying & tasting wines from all over the world. Jess has been chosen as a candidate for the 2020 Family of Twelve Tutorial, inviting her to become an Ambassador for New Zealand fine wines. She has proven to be a hugely important personality within Noble Rot.

Jess is one of Wellington’s top wine & hospitality professionals with a huge respect within the industry. Her passion & knowledge for wine makes her the perfect person to look after your individual wine needs.

Maciej Zimny

Maciej is a vastly experienced wine professional with over 15 years in the hospitality industry. A 5 year Masters Degree in Hospitality & Management saw him then gain valuable fine wine & hospitality experience in Poland, Italy, Australia & New Zealand.

Upon moving to Wellington in 2012, Maciej began the role of Assistant Manager & Sommelier at Hippopotamus Restaurant at the Museum Art Hotel, where he was soon promoted to Restaurant Manager & Head Sommelier. This role provided Maciej with the ability to forge long lasting relationships with New Zealand’s top winemakers, suppliers & industry professionals. The 2016 opening of Noble Rot Wine Bar was a dream realised and Maciej has been one of the major driving forces behind the success of Noble Rot.

Maciej holds a multitude of wine qualifications including the WSET Level 3 Certificate & WSET Level 4 Diploma of Wine & Spirits from the New Zealand School of Wine. Alongside this, Maciej is a Court of Master Sommeliers Certified Sommelier & the winner of New Zealand Sommelier of the Year 2015. In 2017 he travelled to China to compete in the One Belt One Road International Sommelier Summit and Competition & was part of the winning team in a world wide competition. Maciej also won the 2018 Family of XII Tutorial Institute of Masters Of Wine Prize for his tasting over multiple days.

Maciej lives his life around wine and has a passion that is not rivalled by many in his industry. His experience & dedication make him the perfect person to offer his professional wine services to you as a client.

Josh Pointon

Josh’s long and successful career in hospitality started in 2003 in his home town of Wellington with a formal hospitality qualification from WELTEC School of Hospitality. Moving to Sydney in 2005 saw Josh gain 5 years experience in some of the city’s fine wine establishments. A move back to Wellington in 2009 provided an opportunity to become an owner of the highly successful Miramar cafe & bistro, Polo. In 2016, Josh became a partner & founding owner of the now iconic Noble Rot Wine Bar in Wellington which is a culmination of hard work and dedication to the industry.

Further education in wine has seen Josh achieve his WSET Level 3 Certificate & WSET Level 4 Diploma of Wine & Spirits through the New Zealand School of Wine & Spirits. He also teaches WSET wine education through the NZSWS in Wellington & Auckland. In 2019 Josh attended the Family of XII Tutorial where he received  the Institute of Masters of Wine Award for tasting and travelled to Adelaide to attend MW Seminars & Tastings.

Josh truly loves wine, hospitality & his hometown of Wellington where he lives with his family. One of the founding Directors of Noble Wines, Josh has been looking after select clients’ wine needs since 2018 and is ready to be your personal sommelier!
