F.A.Q’S

How much do I have to spend?

The answer is entirely up to you. We are here purely to help you establish what it is you are looking for in your wine. We work to your budget and aim to open up the world of wine to enrich your experience.

What if I don’t like a wine that’s sent?

Get in touch and tell us! Life is too short to drink bad wine and we will make sure that on your next order you receive a little something extra from us.

What if I get a faulty bottle in my order?

Contact us as soon as you discover the faulty bottle and we will replace it or credit it asap.

My tastes have changed since the beginning consultation. How can I change it up?

Because we maintain regular contact with our clients we will always stay on top of your palate and tastes. We will adjust your taste profile to match your current wine crushes and send you wines that hit the spot!

What happens if I receive my case of wine and there’s a broken bottle?

Let us know asap and we will replace it or credit it. This one is generally an over excited courier on a Friday.

Can I take a month off my wine delivery?

As unlikely as this is to happen we understand that occasionally you might need a holiday or ‘Dry July’. As long as you let us know a month in advance, we can put a hold on your delivery and re-start it the following month. Just don’t make a habit of it!

Do you sell any natural wines?

We certainly do. We are big supporters of all wine that is made with love and care. If they happen to be ‘natural wines’ that’s great. If you would like your wines to lean more to the natural we can happily cater to this.

Maciej Zimny – Director & Senior Wine Consultant

Maciej is a vastly experienced wine professional with over 15 years in the hospitality industry. His journey began in his native Poland where he graduated from a 5 year Masters Degree in Hospitality & Management. He spent time in Italy working in restaurants before his travels led him to Sydney, Australia. There he took up a position as a Sommelier at the renowned Aria Restaurant in Circular Quay.

After 2 years service & learning at Aria, he made the move to Wellington, NZ. Maciej began the role of Assistant Manager & Sommelier at Hippopotamus Restaurant at the Museum Hotel, and soon became Restaurant Manager & Head Sommelier. In 2012, Maciej had recently completed the WSET Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Wine & Spirits and he took the opportunity to enrol in the gruelling WSET Level 4 Diploma. This 2 year Diploma is considered the pathway to becoming a Master Of Wine and takes a high level of focus and dedication to successfully complete.

After working through and passing the WSET Level 4 Diploma, Maciej decided to further his wine education and sat the Court Of Master Sommelier Exam & entered the New Zealand Sommelier Of The Year Competition. Maciej not only passed his exam with top honours, he also won the NZ Sommelier Of The Year Competition and took out the 2015 title.

In June 2016, Maciej finally realised his dream of owning his own business and, along with his partners, opened Noble Rot Wine Bar in Wellington. Noble Rot has gone on to win the 2017 Best Wine Experience in New Zealand at the Cuisine Restaurant Awards, a 1 Chefs Hat Rating at the same awards & also the Wellington Felix Award for Best Wine Experience 2017.

Maciej lives his life around wine and has a passion that is not rivalled by many in his industry. His experience and dedication make him the perfect person to offer his professional wine services to you as a client.

Josh Pointon – Director & Senior Wine Consultant

Josh’s long and successful career in hospitality started in his home town of Wellington when he was awarded top student for his year when completing a Diploma of Food & Beverage Service at the Wellington School of Hospitality. Following a number of successes at national hospitality competitions, in 2005 Josh secured the Weltec school’s first student exchange to work at Forty One Restaurant, one of Sydney’s most prestigious fine dining establishments at that time.

With exposure to one of Australia’s top wine lists & cellars, a passion quickly developed for fine wine. After nearly 2 years at Forty One, Josh took the opportunity to join the ex-restaurant manager & sommelier, Stuart Knox, at his newly opened inner city wine bar Fix St James. Fix quickly became a haven for Sydney’s wine lovers and foodies. Under Stuart’s guidance, Josh’s knowledge and interest in wine rapidly grew and in late 2009 he made the decision to move back to his home town of Wellington. On arrival home, Josh set out to realise a dream and became a co-owner of the very successful Miramar cafe & bistro, Polo. Here, Josh was able to begin establishing relationships within the New Zealand wine industry, write his own wine list, further his love for wine and see the restaurant business from the perspective of an owner.

In 2012, after successfully completing the WSET Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Wine & Spirits, Josh enrolled on the WSET Level 4 Diploma. It was here that he met Maciej & the two began a wine tasting study group which met every Monday & is still going to this day. After passing his WSET Diploma in 2014, Josh began planning the idea of a business with his now good friend Maciej.

In June 2016, Noble Rot Wine Bar was opened and has quickly established itself as a premium destination within the thriving Wellington hospitality scene. National recognition has also been achieved with Noble Rot winning the 2017 ‘Negociants New Zealand Best Wine Experience’ at the Cuisine Magazine Restaurant Awards, a 1 Chefs Hat Rating at the same awards and also the Wellington Felix Award for Best Wine Experience 2017.

Josh is totally committed to wine and the hospitality industry and is highly respected within that community. With over 15 years experience and passion in wine related fields, he is excited to be able to work with you to source the perfect wines for your individual needs.
